The Chantilly cat cross-breeding was performed in 1969 in New York. The breed’s popularity led to its rapid spread into Florida and Canada.

It was first registered under the term “foreign long hair,” which was later changed to Tiffany. But since the British had already named a crossbreed between a Chinchilla Persian and a Burmese with the same name, the name was changed to Chantilly, and the cat is currently known as Chantilly/Tiffanie.

Chantilly Cat Personality

This is a medium and moderate-looking cat, which has no extremes. It has a broad head with a modified edge and high cheek bones.

Additionally, it sports medium-sized ears which are well spaced with fur coming out of the ears. Its oval golden eyes increase with intensity as the cat ages. The Chantilly cat has semi-long hair and fur with a thin or no undercoat.

Generally, a Chantilly cat looks like a long haired cat, but a close look will reveal its identity. It weighs about 10 pounds and has an outer layer of fur that is soft, silky, and smooth.

The coat reaches full potential by the time the cat is around 24 months old. It is much thicker on the hind legs, and the tail grows into a full plume, with a fluffy, healthy appearance.

Chantilly Cat Behaviours

She is not demanding at all, and she sometimes likes to chirp or talk to herself as if she is having a conversation. This is a playful cat and needs to be given room to run, play and interact easily with humans.

Daily exercise helps keep your furry friend fit and happy. Although there is no undercoat, she needs to be groomed daily to keep the loose fur out of her coat. If you neglect this simple chore, the coat usually tangles and knots very quickly.

Chantilly Cat Care

The Chantilly cat is easy to groom because it does not have an undercoat, which usually tangles with the top coat.

It only needs a light weekly brushing session to keep the fur from matting. Because they do not shed, they are easy to groom.

Since it has full hair on its ears, owners should check the ears once a week to prevent wax build-up. By doing this, you will be able to keep its ear canals clean and clear.

Due to a delicate digestive system, the Chantilly should not be fed corn products, which could cause digestive complications.

Provide your pet with a consistent, predictable diet and that should take care of any digestive problems. However, if you have any ongoing issues with your pet, consult an exotic pet veterinarian, who can design a meal plan to suit your pet’s specific needs.

Pet owners should be prepared to deal with a prolonged labor and nursing period for a Chantilly female cat. They should supply special conditions for the cat during this motherhood period so the mother and its kittens are healthy and secure.

The greatest news, though, is the Chantilly cat will not trigger allergies in most people as is the case with some of the other cat breeds.
